Cornerstone Private Practice is there for me and my family… and that to me is not just insurance, it’s assurance.

What’s your risk for a Heart Attack?

♥ Did you know that “bad” cholesterol is not a good predictor of whether or not you’ll have a heart attack?

♥ Did you know that having a “normal” cholesterol doesn’t mean you’re safe?  50% of heart attack victims have normal cholesterol.

♥ Did you know that if you passed a stress test today, you could have a heart attack tomorrow?  More than 2/3rds of heart attacks cannot be predicted using a stress test.

♥ The Framingham Risk Score is a commonly used tool for measuring heart attack risk.  Unfortunately studies have shown that a low risk score using this tool misses the majority of people actually at risk.

So how do you know your real risk?

First, don’t limit yourself to whatever evaluation your insurance company says you can have.  Medical science has moved beyond limited, standard risk evaluations like “good” and “bad” cholesterol, but many insurance companies don’t want to pay for the better  testing.  Why?  Because they know that most people change insurances often enough that if they pay for prevention today, it will benefit one of their competitors tomorrow.

Standard medical care only looks at a partial set of risks for the cardiovascular disease.  When it does look for disease, it only looks for later-stage disease.  And our system often ignores health clues that are actual signs of danger.  As is the case with much of medical care today, the usual approach is to be reactive–to wait until there is a problem, and then do something about it.

Do you want to wait until you’re having chest pain to do something about it?  Unfortunately half of the time, the first sign of heart disease is a heart attack that causes sudden death.

♥At Cornerstone, our approach is different.♥

Rather than limiting our evaluation to a limited set of risk factors chosen by someone other than you and your physician, we do a thorough investigation of a multitude of risk factors, and search for actual vascular disease at the earliest stages – before you’d ever feel it.  And then we take a whole-person approach to treating the disease.  Our goal is to ensure that you never have a heart attack or stroke.
