Eating well: from a Pyramid to a Plate

Myplate_green

The USDA announced yesterday that they’ve replaced their long-time food pyramid with a dinner plate.  This will be their new icon to go along with the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans.  Michelle Obama helped unveil it.  The USDA says the idea is to make “building a healthy plate” easier to do.  As you can see it emphasizes the proportion of our plates that should be fruits & veggies (half), which is good.  However, I think it also seems to suggest we should fill our plates almost to the edges.  What are your thoughts?  You can find out more at the ChooseMyPlate.gov website if you’re interested.
